Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer for the Michigan Museums Association (MMA). MMA shares expertise and resources to promote standards and practices that make the Michigan museum community thrive. Our volunteers make that possible! All volunteers are expected to be MMA members.
2019 Conference Team Overview
MMA's 2019 conference will be held jointly with the Association for Midwest Museum (AMM) October 2-5 in Grand Rapids. The bulk of conference planning will follow the process regularly used by AMM, and will be led by a joint planning committee and a small group of sub-committees. This process will be led by AMM staff, with support from MMA staff, and includes a limited number of MMA members.
To help keep a broader level of engagement with MMA members for the conference, there will also be an MMA Conference Team. This group will assist with a limited number of secondary aspects of the conference that will be handled by MMA. This includes planning and facilitating several small events and activities, and coordinating the member scholarships as well as the conference on-site volunteers.
The MMA Conference Team will focus on the activities listed above, but will not be involved with the bulk of the conference planning, though some members of the Joint Committee and Sub-committees may also serve on the MMA Conference Team. The team will meet via conference call once a month, and will use Basecamp for communication and coordination.
