Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer for the Michigan Museums Association (MMA). MMA shares expertise and resources to promote standards and practices that make the Michigan museum community thrive. Our volunteers make that possible! All volunteers are expected to be MMA members.
Volunteer Job Overview
The American Alliance of Museums (AAM) holds Museums Advocacy Day in Washington DC annually. The event includes an on-site day of training and a day spent visiting legislative offices.
MMA participates by sending the staff to speak on behalf of the state-wide museum community, creating Michigan-based supplementary materials for the information packet created by AAM for drop-off at each office, and through social media.
The 2020 Advocacy Day Team will assist with creating the Michigan-based supplementary materials and social media efforts before, during, and after the event. Team members may also attend Museums Advocacy Day, though though you don't need to be attending in DC to be part of the team.
The team will mostly work online through Basecamp with bi-weekly conference calls January, February and March.
