Education Intern - Dearborn Historical Museum (1/17/2020)

Reports To: Paul Talpos, Assistant Curator

Internship Purpose: The Dearborn Historical Museum is looking for an intern to help with our largest museum education program, the Pioneer Program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Help with the daily set up and tear down of the program.
  • Assist with office tasks related to the program, including contacting volunteers and educators over the phone and through email.
  • Learn each of the program stations and participate in the program daily as a historic presenter.
  • Complete training for new volunteers to prepare them to participate in the program.
  • Assist with any other tasks related to the program.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Those who apply must be enrolled in a college or university, or must have recently graduated from a college or university. Undergrad and graduate students welcome to apply.
  • History, museums studies, or education majors/minors preferred, but not required.
  • Must be comfortable with public speaking.
  • Must be able to work with early elementary age children.
  • Must use professional conduct always, including when representing the Dearborn Historical Museum during field trips.
  • Should have an interest in program and/or curriculum development.
  • Must be personable and outgoing.
  • Should remain flexible and positive in a fast-paced environment.

Details

This is an unpaid internship. It will begin in February, and run through the first week of June. The program runs, roughly, from 9:00am-12:00pm Monday to Thursday of each week and applicants should plan on being available for most or all of these days. The museum is flexible with the amount of hours worked each week.
