Matthews Chester Summer Internship - Michigan Museums Association (6/17/2020)

Compensation: $1,000 stipend for summer internship with flexible work hours of no fewer than 6 hours a week and at least 100 hours total.

Location: This is a remote internship. The Intern is expected to provide their own computer, internet access and other needed technology. MMA will provide access to Basecamp for project management and Wild Apricot for website and association management, use of both will be required. A tutorial and support will be provided.

Schedule: Work hours are flexible, but regular time will be required during MMA’s office hours of Monday through Thursday between 9 am and 3 pm.

Program details: Prospective interns with an interest in museums, nonprofit or association management will help the Michigan Museums Association expand its capacity to serve as a catalyst for advancing Michigan’s museum community through shared learning, advocacy and collaboration. 

Interns will work primarily with Executive Director Lisa Craig Brisson and will have the opportunity to learn about the Michigan museum community, project management, board and volunteer relationships,

The internship will include the following activities and projects:

  • Maintaining the MI Museum Census database including adding new information, tracking grant awards, and possibly tracking COVID-19 impacts.
  • Researching and recommending updates to MMA policies.
  • Participation in board and project team meetings.
  • Assisting in online programming including Colleague Chats and Ask an Expert, and helping with the creation of new programs and activities.

The internship may also include the following possible activities and projects, depending on the intern’s skills and interests:

  • Researching information to be added to the MMA website.
  • Researching and assisting with fundraising projects.
  • Assisting in advocacy communications and projects.
  • Researching information/resource requests from the Michigan museum community.

Internships are open to undergraduate or graduate students. Prospective interns should:

  • Have a demonstrated interest in museums, nonprofit administration, or association management.
  • Enjoy researching best practice, models, and resources related to museums, nonprofit administration or association management.
  • Show adaptability and the ability to work independently and with other staff and volunteers across multiple projects.
