Membership Assistant – Michigan Museums Association

Reports to: Executive Director

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

SCOPE OF DUTIES:

The Membership Assistant’s primary responsibility is to assist the Executive Director in the regular duties of the association as it relates to membership and some programs. 

WORK LOCATION AND REQUIREMENTS:

This position will work from a home-based office for approximately 10 hours a week, with some possible travel involved, and some evening and weekends.

COMPENSATION

Pay is $15/hr with no additional benefits. 

RESPONSIBILITIES;

Maintain Membership Records

  • Mail membership renewal letters and invoices each month as needed.
  • Assist with the maintenance of membership records in the Wild Apricot system.
  • Annually review institutional membership contacts.
  • Follow up with lapsed members via phone calls.

Member Communications

  • Coordinate monthly email communications with members and others including, but not limited to the MMA Review monthly electronic newsletter.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the MMA website, including job postings and Dates and Deadlines listing.
  • Work with MMA Communications team on projects as needed.

Programs

·       Assist with program registration and sometimes check-in for workshops, Meet and Eats, and the annual conference.

REQUIREMENTS;

Education:

·       Minimum of High School Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree preferred, with a concentration in museum studies or other humanities related fields.

  • Familiarity with museum environments
  • Dedicated and self-motivated

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed in a home-office environment with a flexible work schedule. Job will require occasional travel throughout the state.  Must have own transportation. MMA will provide a laptop and printer. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess the ability to do the following activities with or without reasonable accommodations:

  • Frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects (not to exceed 35 lbs.)
  • Walking long distances when traveling in all weather conditions
  • Frequent twisting, bending, stooping, reaching and grasping
  • Sitting and/or standing for long periods of time
  • Ability to utilize all types of transportation for travel
