Summary of Position:
ArtWorks is a 5 week program (July 6 - August 7, 2020) that serves young adults ages 14-18, pairing groups of students with local art and design professionals on a project for a local non profit, business, or organization. This year's projects include a mural and a public installation project. This program challenges students to investigate their ideas, learn from their mistakes, and challenge themselves towards new levels of creativity.
Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts (UICA) is looking for a Program Assistant who will work with UICA’s Community Programs Coordinator to plan curriculum, coordinate daily activities, and assist Lead Instructors to train and mentor youth in order to complete one of these two projects. This is a temporary position, with a maximum of 150 hours for the duration of the program (June 1 - August 25, 2020).

Required Education: Minimum of an Associate’s degree or equivalent earned college level credit hours (60) in an art or design related field.
Required Work: Evidence of ongoing scholarly and/or creative activity, such as regional/national exhibition record and commitment to personal artistic or creative practice

The Program Assistant will work directly with the Community Programs Coordinator prior to the start of the program to prepare for student arrival on Monday, July 6. The Program Assistants will work with the staff and youth from 10 AM - 2 PM, Monday through Thursday, from July 6 - August 7, 2020. This includes 4 hours of direct contact time per day (M-Th) with the youth with 1 hour of prep time each day.
The Program Assistant is responsible for designing (5) Educational Sessions (Lunch + Learn Program), lining up Guest Speakers and Field Trip, coordinating UICA/KCAD room use, receiving daily lunch deliveries, and assisting Program Staff with daily needs. The Program Assistant will also support the Community Programs Coordinator in final program reports, collecting metrics, and archiving program materials/data at the end of the program.
Staff is required to attend a Program orientation and planning day, date to be determined. Staff attendance is also mandatory for the ArtWorks Student Orientation day.
