Behind the Scenes at the DIA: Conservation, Registration, and Storage

In this workshop, participants will break into small groups and rotate between the Conservation, Registration, and Collections Management Departments of the Detroit Institute of Art.  Each session will begin with a short presentation followed by a behind the scenes tour that will demonstrate the methods and concerns outlined in the presentation. Some sessions will include practical techniques and hands on experiences such as caring for and dusting objects in galleries, accession tracking and exhibition management, and storage and object organization techniques.  Conservation methods reviewed will include examination, handling and basic care; registration methods and exhibition planning; and storage planning and configuration.

Cost includes morning refreshments, lunch, and materials.
